The Maple Leafs look to shake off a demolition at home last night against the Islanders as they take to the road to battle the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
The Toronto Maple Leafs couldn’t salvage much in the defensive zone last night as they were waxed early and often against the New York Islanders and now have to travel to Pittsburgh to take on a Pens team that hasn’t been playing well this season and needs to break out offensively. The Leafs had been playing their best hockey of the season but the loss to the Isles kept them in the Atlantic division basement and unless something drastic changes soon they will likely land a top draft pick in the off season. The Leafs do get James Reimer back who has actually been very good this season as he will start against Matthew Murray who continues to anchor the Pittsburgh crease in Marc-Andre Fleury’s absence.

The Penguins have struggled mightily at times this season and have fallen well short of expectations but there is still plenty of time left to recover and winning the games they should be takes top priority right now. The Pens sit in fifth spot in the Metro and are seven back of the Rangers for third place but a 3-6-1 stretch has them playing catch up and unless they can start scoring goals they will be in tough to claw out of this hole. The Pens are big favourites here but I like the total better as Reimer has been great and with the Leafs in a back to back and Mike Babcock likely unhappy with giving up up six last night I see this one staying under.
