The Penguins head into the Joe on Thursday to renew hostilities with the Red Wings and look to get something going after yet another loss on Wednesday to the Maple Leafs.
The Penguins head into Detroit on Thursday night and return to the scene where they won the Stanley Cup and they’re hoping some nostalgia brings them some good fortune as their disappointing season continued last night at home against the lowly Maple Leafs. The Pens head into tonight’s game sitting in fifth place in the Metro division and have fallen seven back of the Islanders for third and four back of the Senators for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The injury to Marc-Andre Fleury hasn’t helped as they have had to rely on the battery of Jeff Zatkoff and Matthew Murray between the pipes and while they haven’t played overly bad it surely hasn’t helped them without that continuity in the crease.

The Red Wings meanwhile have lost back to back games and are 3-4-3 in their last 10 contests overall which is a bit of a red flag but thanks to the rest of the division having a difficult season as well they are right in the mix. Detroit is likely to move forward with Petr Mrazek as the team’s number one goaltender as Jimmy Howard has been pulled in each of his last two starts and doesn’t appear to have the same confidence about him we have seen over the years. As for tonight, Mrazek will get the nod and put the Wings in a position to win and with the way the Pens are playing right now I think they are on auto fade until further notice.
