The Avs look for their fourth win in a row and continue their ascent up the Central division standings as they take on the defending champs in Chicago.
The Avalanche are playing their best hockey of the season at the moment and their effort is paying dividends as a 6-2-2 stretch in their last 10 games has them knocking on the door of a playoff spot and sit in fifth place in the division. Colorado has jumped to three game above the .500 mark and have been quite impressive on the road this season and while the United Center is a different animal it is certainly a winnable game here for the Avs who still trail the Hawks by 11 points. Semyon Varlamov will get the nod as he will go up against Corey Crawford.
The Blackhawks have been cruising over the last few weeks and have won six games in a row heading into today which puts them in a good spot to keep it going. Chicago is 17-5-1 at home this season which has them tied with the Stars for most home victories in the NHL and over the years the United Center has become a graveyard to opposing teams as the Hawks just play a little bit better when they are in the confines of their own building. Chicago is a pretty heavy favourite here but I think Colorado can keep this one closer than people think so I will bite on the total instead as this one has the potential to be a shootout and as such I like the over to hit.
