NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
January 10, 2016
We’re continuing a nice run of NHL games today, with six more matchups on the schedule. Before those pucks drop, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats out there in the headlines.
Alex Ovechkin, LW, Washington Capitals: Ovechkin is now just one goal shy of becoming the 43rd NHL player to score 500 goals over a career.
He bagged two scores yesterday to push his total to 499 and help his team to a 4-3 win over the Rangers at the Garden.
Ovechkin scored at 1:25 into overtime, giving him 24 on the year so far. It was his 20th against the Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist, the most he has against anyone.

Martin Jones, G, San Jose Sharks: Yesterday’s biggest rout belonged to the Sharks, as they destroyed the Maple Leafs 7-0 at SAP Center last night.
Jones stopped all 28 shots that came his way, while Tomas Hertl came up big on offense with two goals and an assist. Bent Burns put up a score and a helper of his own. Justin Braun managed three assists.
The Sharks are 6-0-0 when scoring first at home, and 0-12-0 otherwise.
Louis Domingue, G, Arizona Coytoes: Domingue pitched a shutout yesterday as well, his second of the year. He made 26 saves in a 4-0 win over the Predators at Gila River Arena, while Tobias Rieder had two goals and an assist with seven shots. Antoine Vermette had a score and a helper.
The Coyotes are 21-14-4 thus far and have gone 11-6-2 at home. That’s a stark contrast to last season.
Nikita Kucherov, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning: The Lightning are starting to hit a rhythm now that they’re getting healthier these days. Their solid play continued with a 3-2 win over the Canucks at Rogers Arena yesterday.
Kucherov scored 3:51 into overtime to seal the win. He also had an assist with four shots on goal.
Tampa Bay has gone 21-17-4 thus far, and should post a strong second half to the season.
