The Hurricanes look to extend their unexpected winning streak to four games as they head into St. Louis to battle the Blues on Thursday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes are quietly making a push in the Metro division and while there is still a number of games left to be played they are just two points out of a playoff spot heading into Thursday night. The Canes though have been mired in trade speculation over the last few weeks and with guys like Cam Ward and Eric Staal expected to be on the move by the end of February it certainly makes their dynamic in the moment very interesting as they could very well be playing as an audition for contenders. The Canes are 6-2-2 in their last 10 contests and head into St. Louis to battle a banged up Blues side that is in third place in the Central.
USA TODAY Sports
The Blues have been dropping like flies over the last week but they still maintain a solid, deep roster that is matched by very few in the Western Conference and they are coming off back to back victories. St. Louis is in a battle with the Stars and Blackhawks atop the Central division and barring a collapse those three should finish as the top three teams and automatically earn a playoff spot. The Blues though are the team out of those three that I can see dropping a bit as some of their key guys are battling injuries and with Minnesota hot on their heels I think the pressure will be immense as the season unfolds and will be an exciting race to watch. As for tonight, the Canes are playing well but I think they are outmatched here as the Blues get it done at home.
