NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
January 23, 2016
We’ve got a big NHL schedule ahead of us today, with 11 games. The action starts at 12:30 ET, so make sure you get your spot on the couch reserved early. For now, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats out there.
Dylan Larkin, C, Detroit Red Wings: Larkin was the hero last night at First Niagara Center against the Sabres. He scored the game-winning goal and also had an assist in a 3-1 victory.
Petr Mrazek had 19 saves in the shutout, which ended a two-game skid for the Wings and got them to 24-15-8 on the year. Robin Lehner had 42 saves on 44 shots on the other side, but didn’t get any offensive help.

J.T. Miller, C, New York Rangers: Miller came alive in the second period last night, scoring twice on two shots in the second period to help power the Rangers to a 4-1 win at PNC Arena against the Hurricanes.
Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves here, and Ryan McDonagh added a goal on four shots. The Rangers are 26-16-5 and have won two in a row for the first time since Nov. 21-23.
John Tavares, C, New York Islanders: Tavares scored and had an assist on five shots, as did Travis Hamonic, in a 5-2 Isles win over the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre yesterday.
Hamonic missed the previous four games due to a lower-body injury, and his goal broke a 2-2 tie in the third. The Islanders outshot Ottawa 14-4 in that period.
New York is now 25-15-6.
Roberto Luongo, G, Florida Panthers: The Panthers got back to their dominant ways last night, ending a four-game losing skid with a 4-0 win over the Blackhawks at BB&T Center.
Luongo made 27 saves in the shutout, his fourth of the season. This was his first game back in the last four (all losses), as he was out with a concussion. He now has 72 shutouts in his career, good enough for 10th place all-time in NHL history.
