The Senators return home looking to get back in the win column as they welcome the Colorado Avalanche to town.

The Avalanche have quietly put together a solid stretch in the NHL’s Central division and if not for the quality of competition that resides there they could possibly be even better and sitting pretty in a playoff spot. However, they are in a tight race for a wild card spot and currently hold a four point edge on the Coyotes for the second space and will need to finish the season playing better hockey if they’re going to slide into the postseason. Colorado does have a ton of talent in the offensive zone and a nice balance of youth and experience but to me are a team that could greatly generate from another blue liner at the trade deadline and should go after a top four guy. The Avs are 15-12 on the road this season and will likely start Semyon Varlamov who will face off against Craig Anderson and a Sens side that is 14-9-4 at the CTC this season.

Ottawa Senators vs. Colorado Avalanche - 2/11/16 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Ottawa made a splash in an attempt to shore up their blue line by acquiring Dion Phaneuf from the Maple Leafs but things didn’t go according to plan in his first game as they were blanked 3-0 by Petr Mrazek and the Detroit Red Wings. The loss keeps the Sens in sixth in the Atlantic division and six back of the Bruins and Lightning for third but as we have seen in the past this is a team that can go on a serious run to get into the playoffs down the stretch. Ottawa needs to figure out their play in their own end though as they have conceded the most goals in the NHL and team with that statistic rarely make waves in hockey’s second season. Even though this is a back to back spot for the Sens which usually entails a lower scoring game and a better defensive effort I think the Avs have too much fire power and this one goes overt the total.
