The Kings and Capitals meet up in Washington on Tuesday in a potential preview of this season’s Stanley Cup Final.
The LA Kings head into DC looking to prove they are among a handful of Cup contenders and a road win against the league’s best would go a long way in helping them lay that claim. The Kings have been in the mix for the last six seasons and are a team that is very deep and dangerous across the board and with the way their playoff success has gone over the last couple they are right back on pace to win another Stanley Cup. The Kings sit atop the Pacific division with a 33-19-3 record and while they have been in the driver’s seat for most of the season they now have the surging Ducks breathing down their necks for the division crown. Jonathan Quick is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Braden Holtby.

The Capitals continue to be the class of the NHL this season as they hold the best mark in the league through 54 games and are six points clear of the Blackhawks in the race for the President’s Trophy. Washington has a very rare balance of fire power up top and a stifling defense paired with a goaltender in Holtby who is having a spectacular season and with everything working together they are having an historic year with a 40-10-4 record. Washington is the odds on favourite to win the Cup at this point and while things can change they should hold that distinction heading into the postseason and it is games like this one that will make sure of it. The Kings have been sloppy of late and while I don’t like the value I do think the Caps get the victory.
