The Predators head into Montreal on Monday night looking to retake the top wild card spot in the Western Conference against a Canadiens side looking to keep above water.
The Nashville Predators have been a tale of two teams this season as they started off slow and were in a position to miss out on the Western Conference playoffs but since the all-star break they have turned things up a bit and now look like a group that could slide into a wild card spot and cause chaos in the process. The Preds currently sit a point behind Colorado in the Central division and in the wild card race and if they can finish the season with some momentum they should be able to fend off the rest of the pack for a playoff berth and a win on the road against the struggling Canadiens would be a great place to start. Nashville is coming off a loss at home against the Kings but will send Pekka Rinne back to the crease as he will face off against Ben Scrivens who is expected to get the call in the Montreal goaltending carousel.

The Canadiens have really fallen off since the middle of November and with the trade deadline around the corner it’ll be interesting to see if they declare themselves as buyers or sellers and who they will try to acquire or ship out. Montreal has a scapegoat as they are without the reigning Vezina and Hart Trophy winners but they have been for the majority of the season and their failure to adapt has been incredibly alarming and as such they find themselves in the draft lottery race instead of a division title race. Montreal is very rarely a home underdog but that is what we see here and while the value is tempting they have been atrocious to watch this season and I expect the losing to continue against a defensively sound Predators side.
