NHL Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 24, 2016
We’ve got a short four-game schedule in the NHL tonight, so this morning is a great time to check out some of the notable trade rumors happening around the league ahead of the upcoming deadline. Let’s take a closer look at the players everyone’s talking about.
The Jets’ Andrew Ladd is reportedly drawing quite a bit of interest, and could be on his way out of Winnipeg within the next few days.
The best place for Ladd to go would likely be a top-six role in Chicago, where he could rub elbows with Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews. The Blackhawks have made no secret of the fact that they’re actively seeking out someone to fill that role.

Jannik Hansen is also drawing quite a bit of potential trade interest, according to sources close to the Canucks.
Hansen has had a good season so far, and carries a relatively modest $2.5 million cap hit. He could fit in nicely with a team seeking some additional speed.
There have been a few trade rumors out there concerning New York Rangers defenseman Keith Yandle, and the Stars have reportedly been hounding Rangers brass for quite some time about potentially acquiring the free-agent-to-be.
All of that said, New York has reportedly made Yandle off-limits, thanks to the fact that they’re playing better these days and trying to gear up for another much-needed Stanley Cup run.
Hockey fans in the Motor City have been clamoring for the team to make a move in dealing veteran net-minder Jimmy Howard, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
Howard has struggled mightily over the past few months, even though he turned in a nice performance this week against the aforementioned Rangers. Numbers aside, he’s also carrying a hefty cap hit of just under $5.3 million along with him. No one in the league is going to take that big of a chance for that kind of money, no matter how desperate they are for goalie help.
Let’s head over to Chicago for a moment and check out winger Bryan Bickell. The defending champion Blackhawks have been trying to deal him out for quite some time, and they may have an interested party in the Toronto maple Leafs.
The Leafs have reportedly made some inquiries about Bickell and the teams could be trying to work out a deal.
The sticking points here include Bickell’s $4 million cap hit, a disappointing 2014-15 campaign and some sketchy health issues in tow. Chicago would have to include prospects or draft picks in any potential deal, but it might be worth it to get rid of that cap number and simply wash their hands of him.
