The Predators look to distance themselves from the pack in the Western Conference wild card race as they welcome the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
The Blues head into Nashville on Saturday in a pretty good position for the Western Conference playoffs, currently hanging onto the third and final seed in the Central division and hold an eight point lead on Nashville for the top wild card spot which avoids a first round match up with the winner of the division. St. Louis has had to deal with a slew of injuries this season but have battled through all year and have demonstrated they deserve to be grouped with a small handful of teams considered to be Cup favourites. St. Louis is 35-19-9 this season and will turn to Jake Allen tonight who will face off against Pekka Rinne for the Preds who will be looking to lock up their 16th win at home this season.

Nashville has come along since they hosted the all-star festivities and could give their home town fans even more to cheer about if they can qualify for the playoffs and while they have a ton of teams gunning for them right now they do match up well with most of the wild card contenders in the west. The Preds got the trade season started early this year by acquiring Ryan Johansen from the Blue Jackets and while it hasn’t paid off as expected player for player it seemed to have lit a spark under Filip Forsberg who has been spectacular since the move and is once again the top scoring threat the Preds have to offer. This should be a great game between two hungry teams but in the end I like the depth of St. Louis better and that should be the difference in a highly entertaining contest.
