We’ve got a lengthy NHL schedule brewing today, starting early this afternoon and lasting until the wee hours. In the meantime, let’s take our daily look at the notable stats and players out there in the headlines.
Chad Johnson, G, Buffalo Sabres: Johnson had himself a nice game last night at SAP Center against the Sharks. He came up with 24 saves on 25 shots, helping the Sabres to a 3-1 victory.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the third, before Zach Bogosian posted his fourth goal of the year. He also had an assist.
The win gives the Sabres 57 points; they’ve got a 25-30-7 record. The Sharks have 70 points at 32-22-6.

Rickard Rakell, C, Anaheim Ducks: In last night’s lone overtime affair, the Ducks got past the Oilers 2-1 on Rakell’s goal in the extra period at Honda Center.
Cam Talbot snagged 32 saves on 34 shots, but didn’t get much help from the offense (18 shots).
The Oilers have 51 points at 22-34-7; the Ducks have 74 points at 33-19-8 this season.
Tuukka Rask, G, Boston Bruins: Rask was on point last night, stopping nearly everything that came his way at PNC Center in Raleigh. He snagged 39 saves against the Hurricanes, giving his team a 4-1 win.
Batt Beleskey scored twice here; he now has 13 on the year. Patrice Bergeron got his 23rd goal and Brad Marchand got his 32nd (which Bergeron assisted on).
Ben Bishop, G, Tampa Bay Lightning: Bishop recorded a shutout last night at Prudential Center, stopping all 21 shots in a 4-0 victory.
Steven Stamkos put up a goal and an assist, as did Ondrej Palat. Alex Killorn scored in the first period; it was his 11th of the year.
The Lightning are 35-22-4 with 74 points; the Devils are 30-26-7 with 67 points.
