The Buffalo Sabres head into Toronto on Monday night looking to shake off a 3-2 loss in their last outing and distance themselves from the Leafs in the Eastern Conference.
The Buffalo Sabres have quietly had a decent second half of the season and while they will fall well short of the playoffs they do have a lot to look forward to in the coming years and things could turn around as early as next season. The Sabres sit in second to last in the Eastern Conference but have moved a full nine points clear of the Buds in the race for Auston Matthews and with a divisional show down between the two sides tonight you can be sure that both will be eager for a victory. The Sabres take to the road looking to improve their mark away from home to 15-14-4 which would be a huge accomplishment for them to move above the .500 mark and with 16 games left in the regular season they can certainly finish the year with a winning record.

The Maple Leafs meanwhile head into this one coming off a loss against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, are losers of five in a row, and are a dismal 1-8-1 in their last 10 contests. While the Leafs have been very public about the rebuilding process and everyone in Leafs Nation seems to be alright with a few years of futility if the reward means a handful of great prospects and a stint as a perennial playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. However, in the meantime, Toronto shouldn’t be favoured against anyone in any building and and while this is a division rival they are hosting, it is the Sabres who have been playing the better hockey and while they are going with Chad Johnson in this one instead of RObin Lehner I think Buffalo gets the victory.
