We have a stuffed evening of NHL action ahead of us, with eight games on the schedule. In the meantime, let’s check out our daily wrap-up of the key players and stats in the news right now.
Shayne Gostisbehere, D, Philadelphia Flyers: Gostisbehere scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season last night at Wells Fargo Center, helping his team to a 4-2 win over the visiting Lightning.
Also of note in this one, Claude Giroux bagged two assists, Wayne Simmonds scored his 24th goal of the year and Brayden Schenn got his 22nd.
With a 31-23-11 record, the Flyers have 73 points. The Lightning are at 82 points with a 39-23-4 mark.

Lee Stempniak, RW, Boston Bruins: We had four games last night that were decided in overtime or shootout, and this was one. The Bruins edged out the Panthers in OT 5-4 at BB&T Center, thanks to a goal and two assists by Stempniak.
Both Patrice Bergeron and Jiri Hudler scored two goals in this one, which Boston led 4-1 after the first period.
The Panthers have 81 points at 36-21-9; the Bruins also have 81 at 37-23-7.
Semyon Varlamov, G, Colorado Avalanche: Now let’s get to some goalie action. Varlamov posted 37 saves in the Avs’ 3-1 win over the Coyotes at Pepsi Center last night, giving him a .974 save percentage.
Matt Duchene and Mikhail Grigorenko each scored and had an assist. Duchene’s came on a power play and was his 28th of the year.
The Avs have 72 points at 34-30-4; the Coyotes have 62 points at 28-32-6.
Anze Kopitar, C, Los Angeles Kings: The Kings put forth a dominant effort last night at Staples Center, bagging a home win 5-1 over the visiting Canucks.
Kopitar scored and had two assists in this one, and Jonathan Quick logged 21 saves. Los Angeles scored all five goals in the second and third periods after a scoreless first.
The Kings are 39-22-4 with 82 points; the Canucks have 62 points at 25-28-12.
