The NHL is back with five games tonight, which will provide a nice appetizer as we head into the weekend. That said, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there right now.
Vincent Trocheck, C, Florida Panthers: The Panthers took a 1-1 game after the first period and turned it into a 6-2 victory over the Senators at BB&T Center in Sunrise last night.
Trochek bagged three assists and a goal, while Jaromir Jagr put up two scores himself. Jagr has 23 goals on the year so far.
The Panthers are 37-21-9 for 83 points; the Senators have 70 points at 31-30-8.

Justin Abdelkader, LW, Detroit Red Wings: Up at Joe Louis Arena last night, the Red Wings slugged it out with the Jets, and were down 0-2 at the end of the first period.
Detroit was able to score twice in the second and once in the third for a 3-2 victory, however, and Abdelkader logged a goal with an assist. It was his 17th score of the year.
Detroit has 77 points with a 33-23-11 record. The Jets have 59 with a 27-35-6 mark.
Alex Galchenyuk, C, Montreal Canadiens: The game at Bell Centre in Montreal was an intense one. The Canadiens edged out Buffalo with a 3-2 victory, thanks to Galchenyuk’s two goals. He’s now got 25 on the season. Mark Barbiero notched a pair of assists here, while Torrey Mitchell put up his eighth goal of the year.
The Canadiens are 32-30-6 with 70 points; the Sabres have 63 at 27-33-9.
Keith Kinkaid, G, New Jersey Devils: Kinkaid was on his game last night at SAP Center in San Jose. He logged 30 saves in a 3-0 victory over the Sharks. The Devils scored once in the second and twice in the third, despite getting outshot 30-16 overall. Travis Zajac scored his 11th and 12 goals of the year here as well.
The Devils have 71 points at 32-29-7; the Sharks have 80 at 37-24-6.
