The NHL had a huge day yesterday, so it’s easing things up a bit in the coming hours with just three games on the schedule. Before we settle in for those tip-offs, let’s check out our daily wrap-up of the top names and stats.

Darren Helm, C, Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings were able to edge out the Rangers in overtime yesterday at Joe Louis Arena by a score of 3-2. They scored twice in the third period to force the extra time.
Helm had two goals, including the game-winner. He has 10 on the year. The Red Wings outshot the Rangers 43-25 here.
Detroit is 34-23-11 with 79 points; the Rangers have 85 points at 39-22-7.

Matt Scheifele, C, Winnipeg Jets: The Jets were able to overcome the Avalanche last night at MTS Centre, scoring twice in the third period for a 3-2 comeback victory.
Scheifele scored and had an assist here; he’s now got 22 goals on the season. On the other side, Matt Duchene had his 29th goal in the second period on a power play.
The Jets are now 28-35-5 with 61 points. The Avs have 74 points at 35-31-4.

Joe Thornton, C, San Jose Sharks: The Sharks and Capitals were tied at 2-2 entering the third period last night at SAP Center, but San Jose scored three times in the third for a 5-2 win.
Thornton posted a goal and an assist here. Joe Pavelski also scored; he has 32 goals on the season. On the other side, T.J. Oshie (21) and Justin Williams (20) each scored for the Caps.
Washington is now 49-14-5 with 103 points; the Sharks are 38-24-6 with 82 points.

Mike Smith, G, Arizona Coyotes: Smith was on ire last night at Rexall Place in Edmonton. He posted saves on all 44 of the Oilers’ shots, helping the team to a 4-0 victory.
Antoine Vermette scored twice for the Coyotes (14) and had an assist. Michael Stone had a pair of helpers himself.
The Coyotes are now 30-32-7 with 67 points; the Oilers are 27-37-7 with 61 points.
