The Canucks head into Edmonton tonight looking to shake off a two game losing skid and keep their very faint playoff hopes intact with a victory.
The Vancouver Canucks haven’t had a great season and will likely fall short of the Western Conference playoffs as they have 10 points to make up in just 13 games but you can be sure that head coach Willie Desjardins will have them competing until the final whistle. The Canucks didn’t have a ton of expectation heading into this season after a number of offseason changes and it has shown in the standings as they are three games under the .500 mark and are closer to landing the top overall draft pick than they are to landing a playoff spot. The Canucks are just three points up on the Oilers for the worst mark in the West and if Edmonton can get a victory here it would mark their second straight and would pull them out of the basement. Ryan Miller is expected to get the call between the pipes as he will likely match up with Cam Talbot for the Oilers.

It has been another disappointing campaign in Oil Country as an injury riddled season for Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins stalled the potential of this young group but with each passing year it becomes clear that they don’t have the defense to compete with the league’s best. Edmonton is on the right track in terms of some of their pieces and have some young prospects that are already making a difference or will be in the near future but until they can actually produce results on the ice they will continue to be a façade in the league standings. However, Edmonton has played well at home this season and while they may be getting too much credit here I think they have more than enough motivation to get the win against a division rival in this one.
