The Flyers look to shake off a tough loss at the hands of their arch rivals in their last outing as they continue their chase towards a wild card spot in Brooklyn tonight.
The Philadelphia Flyers head into the Barclay’s Center on Monday night looking to keep pace in the chase for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot and after a tough loss against the Penguins in their last outing they are hoping for a better result in this one. The Flyers sit three points back of the Red Wings for the final vacancy and will need to finish of the regular season with some momentum as they only have 12 games remaining including tonight’s show down with the Islanders. The good news for Philly though is that they hold two games in hand on the Wings and if they can get a victory here against New York it will put them in the driver’s seat to take over and surprise the masses by sneaking into the postseason.

The Islanders meanwhile look to secure their berth in the Eastern Conference postseason and with a win tonight they can move to within a single point of the Rangers for the third automatic berth in the Metro division. New York has lost their grip on home ice and have fallen into the wild card bracket thanks to a six game winning streak by the Penguins but the Isles do have 12 games remaining on their schedule as well and can make up ground on the Rangers and Penguins with a victory tonight. The Isles are 21-8-4 at home this season and while the Flyers may be the more desperate of the two groups I think the Islanders have the edge in goal here as Steve Mason is expected to start for Philly and that pushes the needle to the home side for me.
