The Islanders look to retain the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference as they head into Tampa Bay to face off against the Lightning on Friday.
The New York Islanders look to retake third spot in the Metro division and overthrow the Penguins in the standings in a pivotal show down against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night as both teams are gearing up for the home stretch of the regular season. The Islanders haven’t been playing their best of late and are 4-4-2 in their last 10 contests and thanks to a surge from the Penguins the Isles have slipped out of the Metro bracket and could very well land a first round match up with the league leading Capitals if they aren’t careful. Thomas Greiss is expected to get the call in the New York crease as he will face off against Ben Bishop as both teams play the front leg of a back to back in this one.

The Lightning meanwhile have the Atlantic division crown in their sights as they currently sit two points behind the Florida Panthers for that designation but do have a game in hand and pull even if they get a victory tonight. Tampa Bay are the defending Eastern Conference champions and while they haven’t had the same level of success this season they are still very much a threat in the Eastern Conference and could challenge the Capitals for the crown this year. The Bolts are 22-11-3 at home this season and with New York’s road mark being underwhelming and the price being respectable I think this is Tampa’s game to lose and we are going to side with them in this one.
