NHL News 3/28/16: Blackhawks Clinch Playoff Berth with Win Over Canucks

After a pretty mild day of action yesterday, the NHL is back with a lenghthy schedule tonight. Before we get into those games, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there in the news.
Scott Darling, G, Chicago Blackhawks: Last night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, the defending champs scored twice in the third period to eke out a 3-2 victory over the host Canucks.
Darling made 26 saves in this one as the Blackhawks outshot Vancouver 32-28 overall. The game-winning goal came from Andrew Ladd, who now has 23 on the season. Teuvo Teravainen and Tomas Fleischmann also scored.
Chicago is now 44-25-7 on the season with 95 points. The Canucks are 27-35-13 with 67 points. The Blackhawks clinch their eighth straight postseason berth with the victory.

Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: The playoff race out east is quite the logjam, but the Penguins took a key victory last night over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Crosby bagged the game-winner in overtime for a 3-2 result as the team outshot New York 32-27. Crosby now has 32 on the year.
The Pens have won eight of their last nine and are cooking right now. This game may well have been a first-round playoffs preview.
Victor Rask, C, Carolina Hurricanes: Last night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, the hometown Hurricanes held on for a 3-2 victory over the Devils.
Rask scored twice in the game, including what would eventually be the game-winner in the second period. That one put the ‘Canes up 3-0. Rask now has 20 goals on the year.
The Hurricanes are now 33-28-15 on the year with 81 points. The Devils are at 80 points on a 36-32-8 record.
