The Rangers continue their pursuit at home ice in the opening round as they head into Raleigh to battle the Hurricanes.
The New York Rangers head into Carolina on Thursday night looking to create separation in the race for home ice in the Metro division as they currently hold a one point lead on the Penguins for second place. The Blue Shirts are 43-24-9 this season and head into this game with a 5-2-3 record in their last 10 contests but are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Penguins that has them clinging for life for home ice in a potential first round match up with the Pens. New York will aim for their 19th victory of the season on the road as they take on a Hurricanes side that is seven points back of the Flyers for the final playoff spot in the East and will be fighting for their playoff lives tonight.
USA TODAY Sports
The Hurricanes have had a pretty respectable season and and have shocked a lot of people by how well they have played this season but falling short of the playoffs would sting a little bit and make the offseason that much longer. Carolina sit three games above the 500 mark and if they could have cut down on their league leading 16 overtime losses they could very well be the one’s in the driver’s seat in the Eastern Conference wild card race. This should actually be a pretty exciting contest and while the Canes have been a very sneaky team to watch this season I think the Rangers have too much to play for here and should get the win in the end.
