The Maple Leafs and Devils finish off the regular season with a show down in New Jersey on Saturday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs head into New Jersey to finish off a disappointing season but have a ton of optimism to look forward to in the coming months as they could very well land their next cornerstone player in the draft and parlay it with some big acquisitions in free agency. The Maple Leafs sit in last place in the NHL standings with 69 points but sit tied with the Edmonton Oilers for that designation and with both teams facing tough matchups to finish the season they could very well finish tied in the league basement. The Buds are coming off a huge overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers and are 6-4 in their last 10 contests but take on a goaltender in Cory Schneider who has been excellent this season and will look to finish the year on a high note as he will face off against Garret Sparks.

The Devils meanwhile had a better season than many had anticipated and while they ended up 11 points back of the playoffs they did have some great stretches this season and could very well be in the hunt next year. New Jersey still needs to find a better source of offense as they were leagues worst offense by a country mile and don’t have much in the system but if they can get continued production out of their blue line and goaltending they will stay the course and continue to be a thorn in the side of their opponents. While both teams will finish the season tonight I like the way the Devils have been playing despite a loss in their last outing and I think they finish the year on a high note.
