The Sharks and Kings renew hostilities in the playoffs once again as they meet up at the Staples Center on Thursday for game one.
The San Jose Sharks look to rid themselves of their playoff demons as they take on the LA Kings in the first round of the Pacific division bracket and will meet their foes for the first time in the playoffs since blowing a three game lead two years ago. San Jose has had another strong season and are led by the usual suspects as veterans Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns, and Logan Couture form the core of a solid team that has never been able to push through in the playoffs and now once again face a tough Kings side that has a Cup winning pedigree. The Sharks will go with former Kings backup Martin Jones in goal as he will look to upset his former team and battery mate Jonathan Quick in game number one.

The Kings meanwhile are a trendy pick to once again hoist the Stanley Cup in what is quickly becoming known as the “even year” phenomenon as they have alternated Cup championships with the Blackhawks over the last handful of seasons. Los Angeles is a very solid team that deserves all of the attention and accolades they are getting from prognosticators and after a 48-28-6 record they were just a point off from winning the Pacific division and actually finished the year with two more victories than the Ducks. LA is a pretty heavy favourite here and while they have been down this road with the Sharks and did get some retribution in the end of that series I think they will still be weary of a slow start and will get a victory at home.
