We’re coming off a four-game NHL playoffs schedule last night, and we’ve got four more to look forward to this evening. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from around the league.

Joe Pavelski, C, San Jose Sharks: In game one of the Sharks-Kings series last night, we had a 3-3 tie going into the third period. Pavelski scored his second goal of the game early in the period, and the Sharks would prevail 4-3.
The Sharks have some ugly playoff memories of losing four straight to the Kings in 2014, after being up 3-0. This win will help fend those memories off for a while.

Jason Spezza, C, Dallas Stars: The Stars and Wild opened their game at American Airlines Center last night, and Dallas pummeled Minnesota 4-0 with two goals in both the second and third periods.
Spezza had a goal and an assist here, while Kari Lehtonen pitched the shutout on 22 saves. Dallas outshot the Wild 32-22.
Game two is tomorrow night.

John Tavares, C, NY Islanders: The Islanders and Panthers were tied up 3-3 in a tight game going into the third period last night, but New York got the victory with two scores in that final frame, taking it 5-4.
Tavares scored once and had two assists, while Kyle Okposo logged a goal and an assist of his own.
The Panthers outshot the Isles by a whopping 46-26 margin here, but Thomas Greiss made 42 saves to hold them off.

Braden Holtby, G, Washington Capitals: The Capitals started out their postseason in dominating fashion, snagging a 2-0 win over the Flyers last night at Verizon Center.
Holtby put up 19 saves in the shutout, and Washington outshot Philly 31-19 overall.
The Caps’ secret weapon here was their penalty kill; they went 4-for-4 there and only allowed eight shots on net after the first period.
