NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
April 18, 2016
The NHL is bringing us three more playoff games today, kicking off this evening. While we’re waiting on those matchups to begin, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the headlines.
Brian Elliott, G, St. Louis Blues: This Blues-Blackhawks matchup is turning into quite a series. The Blues took at 2-1 edge last night by pulling off a 3-2 victory at United Center. There were shots on goal all over the place here, as Chicago outshot St. Louis 46-36.
Elliott made 44 saves in a busy evening, and Jaden Schwartz scored the eventual game-winner at 13:22 in the third.

Petr Mrazek, G, Detroit Red Wings: Mrazek wasn’t quite as busy in his game at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit against the Lightning, but he still recorded the 2-0 shutout on 16 saves.
Detroit got both their goals in the second period, outshooting the Lightning 30-16. That cuts the Tampa edge in the series to 2-1, and game four will be tomorrow night in Detroit.
Ryan Pulock, D, New York Islanders: The Isles got two key goals from their defensemen at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last night, which helped them edge the visiting Panthers 4-3.
Pulock scored and had an assist, while Thomas Hickey scored the game-winning goal at 12:31 in overtime.
The win gives New York a 2-1 edge in the series thus far. This was the franchise’s first playoff victory at Barclays Center.
Pekka Rinne, G, Nashville Predators: The Predators went into Honda Center last night and edged out the hometown Ducks by a margin of 3-2. Nashville held a 3-1 lead going into the third and thwarted the Anaheim rally.
Rinne made 27 saves on 29 shots, while Roman Josi assisted twice.
That makes two straight--and pretty improbable--road victories for the Predators to open this series.
