The Sharks head home looking to push the Kings to the brink as the Pacific division foes meet up in San Jose on Monday.
The Los Angeles Kings face an all too familiar scenario in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs as they have gone down 0-2 heading back to San Jose and while the turnaround in that infamous series two years ago played out in their favour they absolutely need to get a win in this one tonight. The Kings generated a buzz to close out game number two but couldn’t find the equalizer in the last minute and ultimately they face a tough two game deficit heading into the Sharks Tank which usually comes alive come playoff time. If there is one positive note to build on if you’re the Kings it is that the Sharks were horrendous on home ice this season as they actually had a losing record with an 18-20-3 record which is far and away the worst record of all the playoff qualifiers and with the Kings playing well on the road they know they can get a win in a game where they need it most.

The Sharks meanwhile have looked very impressive through two games and even though the second of those contests was close to the finish it was the road team that dominated and perhaps deserved a better fate than they saw in the end. San Jose is loaded across the board but as mentioned they were very sloppy on home ice this season and that is a cause for concern as they head back there with a chance to sweep the series with two more victories. However, the Kings are a very good team that has a ton of talent and playoff experience and while the first two have been a carbon copy of their series two years ago I think the Kings break the trend here and get the win on the road in a game that is borderline as a must win.
