The Penguins and Capitals face off at the Verizon Center in game two on Saturday after an overtime thriller went to the home side on Thursday night.
The Penguins put up a spectacular effort on Thursday night and were a bounce away from taking the series lead but in the end the Capitals had too much fire power and netted the overtime winner to stay ahead for the time being. Pittsburgh though showed they aren’t going to be intimidated by the President’s Trophy winners and if they can manage to keep the Caps offense in check to some degree they have a great chance at evening the series as they found success in solving Braden Holtby and I think we are in for a long series as many expected between these two bitter divisional foes. Matt Murray will stay in the Penguins’ crease as he will face off against the Vezina favourite in Holtby.

The Capitals meanwhile are ecstatic to still have home ice advantage after a sluggish and inconsistent effort on Thursday night but they got it done when it mattered and head into game two looking to be a little sharper. Washington is loaded across the board and as discussed previously they have plenty of former Penguins on their roster to add to a group that already doesn’t enjoy the company of their divisional foes in a rivalry that has manifested thanks to the association of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. This series is going to be a classic and while the Caps lost very few games at home this season I think they drop one here as the Pens come out and rebound nicely.
