The Penguins and Capitals shift their series to Pittsburgh for the next two games with the first going on Monday night with each team with a victory.
The Capitals head into Pittsburgh on Monday night looking to retake home ice advantage with a pivotal game three victory after they were bounced late in Saturday’s game two at the Verizon Center and with their road record being so strong this season it would come as no surprise to see them skate away with a big win. Washington is loaded across the board but they will have to spend the next three games without Brooks Orpik who has gone from a fan favourite while with the Pens to public enemy number one after singing with the Caps and now taking out new cornerstone player Olli Maata with a cheap shot in game two. The Caps lose a quality defenseman who knows the opponent well and while they have some great depth on the blue line that can make up for Orpik’s absence they are still going to miss him at the back.

The Penguins meanwhile could very well be up 2-0 in this series heading back home with the way they have been playing and while they are happy to be on even terms they know they have an uphill battle in front of them if they’re going to take down the league’s best team. Pittsburgh is loaded in the offensive zone and do have a couple of great pieces in the defensive third and with the way Matt Murray has been playing of late it has put an end to any demand to get Marc-Andre Fleury back from injury sooner than is necessary. The Pens were great at home this season and have been the better of the two teams so far in this series and while getting the Caps at a price is very enticing I do think the Penguins get the victory and go up 2-1.
