The Pittsburg Penguins shoot for another win and a 2-0 series lead versus the San Jose Sharks in game two of the Stanley Cup.
The San Jose Shark gave up a couple early goals and a late one to drop game one of the Stanley Cup finals 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy Center on Monday. The Penguins jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period to put the Sharks on their heels before SJ tied it in the second.

Conor Sheary and Bryan Rust scored in the opening frame for the Penguins who looked to be heading for an easy win before the Sharks regrouped with second period tallies from Tomas Hertl and Patrick Marleau. Nick Bonino saved the Pens from overtime or worse when he found the back of the net off a pass from Kris Letang to win it with just 2:33 remaining in regulation and OT looming.
The Pens received a solid performance from Matt Murray who came up with 24 saves to get the victory while Sharks netminder Martin Jones who was outstanding in defeat with a solid 38 save effort as Pittsburgh put plenty of rubber on him. The series resumes in Pittsburgh for game two and San Jose has proven to be resilient in the postseason with a 5-1 record following losses.
The over is 5-0-1 in Sharks last 6 Wednesday games and the Sharks are 8-1 in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 while going 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest. The over is 3-0-1 in Penguins last 4 Wednesday games and the under is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 Stanley Cup Finals games while Pittsburgh are 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. The under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the home team is 13-4 in the last 17 meetings.
I am leaning San Jose in game two who obviously can not afford another defeat and face an 0-2 hole heading home. I will update as the line settles…
