The San Jose Sharks look to even their series at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The San Jose Sharks rode a strong first period to a 4-2 victory at the Consol Energy Center Thursday to cut their series deficit to 3-2. For the Penguins, a strong opening frame rally went for naught as the offense struggled for more then 40 minutes.

This came was really about an explosive opening 20 minutes with San Jose taking a 1-0 lead just over a minute in on Brent Burn’s and the Sharks first shot of the contest. San Jose doubled their lead at the 3:53 mark on Logan Couture’s deflection.
The Penguins might have been stunned but regrouped quickly on Evegni Malkin’s power play goal when his shot deflected off a skate in to the net while the equalizer came a mere 22 ticks later when a Nick Bonino shot bounced off Carl Hagelin.
San Jose wasn’t done and regained a 3-2 lead at 14:47 on a Melker Karlsson tally but that was the way things stayed until Joe Pavelski closed the Penguins out with an open netter with 1:20 left in regulation. Martin Jones saw plenty of rubber with 44 saves to get the win while Matthew Murray stop 18 shots in defeat.
The trends say under and game five was a defensive struggle after the first period scoring spree. No line is out but that will give me some time to look at this in depth so please check back…
