Calgary Flames (35-40-7) at Edmonton Oilers (31-43-8)

NHL Hockey: Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 10:00 pm (Rogers Place)

The Line: Edmonton Oilers +130 / Calgary Flames +175 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Edmonton Oilers look to start off on the right foot as they welcome their bitter rivals to town on the Calgary Flames as the Battle of Alberta heats up once again.

The Flames head into Edmonton looking to spoil the party in the unveiling of Rogers Arena as both teams look to get a victory in their season opener in what should be a very exciting show down. Calgary is fresh off of signing Johnny Gaudreau to a brand new contract and they are hoping that will be incentive for him to have a huge season, and with the likes of Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, and a slew of quality defensemen this Flames side could be in for a big season. Calgary will turn to Brian Elliott who will be the starting goaltender after spending the last few seasons splitting time with Jake Allen in St. Louis but he is here to be the guy and against Cam Talbot tonight it should be a nice show down as both goaltenders look to keep their respective counterparts off the scoresheet.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames - 10/12/16 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Oilers meanwhile skate into another season of uncertainty as they made some serious changes after another disappointing campaign, but according to most projections they are in for another long season in 2016-17. Edmonton traded away Taylor Hall who had been their best offensive weapon for the last five years and got emerging defenseman Adam Larsson in return who will slide into a top pairing right away, but the consensus is the Oilers lost the deal and will need a big year from Larsson, and newcomer Milan Lucic to justify the move. Edmonton will ride Connor McDavid who was recently named the youngest captain in league history last week, and while he personally is in for a big season it may not be accompanied by team success just yet.

The Flames are 18-37 in their last 55 road games and 6-14 in their last 20 against the Pacific while the Oilers are 49-100 in their last 149 overall, 13-45 in their last 58 against the Pacific, and 4-11 in their last 15 home games. Calgary is a live dog right now and to me are the better team but this one looks to have a ton of fireworks as both teams can score in bunches and should light the lamp here.
