The Montreal Canadiens take the ice at Keybank Center against the Buffalo Sabres.
The Stanley Cup seemed like it would find a home in Montreal with the team refusing to lose over the first month of last season before things went south when goaltender Carey Price got hurt so the fans have to hope Price stays on the ice and remains healthy. The Habs have scoring talent in Alex Galchenyuk who has 30+ goal potential with newly acquired Alexander Radulov having scoring potential as well if he isn’t a problem child while Brendan Gallagher, Andrew Shaw and Max Pacioretty will give the opposition problems. The trade for Shea Weber might be fine early but an older defensemen late in the year could be an issue.

The Buffalo Sabres seem to be better but that y no means says the team is built for the postseason because there is plenty of building yet to be done. The Sabres are still a year or two away but the talent on the roster is undeniable with Jack Eichel, Kyle Okposo, Tyler Ennis, Rasmus Ristolainen, Sam Reinhart, Evander Kane and others will not go un noticed. The question is can Cody Franson and Ristolainen help the defense and is Robin Lehner the type of goalie that can lead the Sabres to the postseason. That question will eventually have an answer but the defense could be good and the goaltending bad or vice versa and I haven’t a clue.
The Canadiens are 1-6 in their last 7 games playing on 3 or more days rest and the Canadiens are 1-5 in their last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game while the over is 4-1-2 in Canadiens last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 1-0-5 in Sabres last 6 vs. Atlantic and the over is 2-0-3 in Sabres last 5 Thursday games while going 2-0-3 in Sabres last 5 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The over is 4-0-3 in the last 7 meetings and the Canadiens are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Buffalo while the road team is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
The numbers favor Montreal or the over so while I wait for a line I’ll look at this further…
