The Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins meet Saturday night in a NHL matchup at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The Anaheim Ducks hope for a bounce back performance after losing their season opener on the road to the Dallas Stars. The Ducks simply couldn’t find the back of the net enough despite getting 35 shots off and getting plenty of good looks. Andrew Cogliano has two goals for Anaheim, while Ryan Getzlaf and Kevin Bieksa have combined for 15 shots on goal. The offense did everything it could, but John Gibson allowed four goals on 20 shots faced and didn’t give the Ducks much of a chance to win their opener. The Ducks obviously need better goalkeeping to string some wins together and get off to a faster start. The Anaheim Ducks hope to avoid losing their first two games for the second straight season. Simon Despres is questionable with a injury.

The Pittsburgh Penguins came away with a monster win over the Washington Capitals that came in a shootout. Patric Hornqvist and Evgeni Malkin each found the back of the net in the second period, while the Penguins defense handled the rest of the game. Marc-Andre Fleury came away with 39 saves in the Pittsburgh victory and has now allowed two goals in each of his last four regular season games. The Penguins could use great goalkeeping to keep them afloat until Sidney Crosby returns from a concussion. The Pittsburgh Penguins have now won 11 straight regular season games when allowing two or less goals. The Pittsburgh Penguins also have a chance to start a season 2-0 for the second time in three years.
The Ducks are 35-16 in their last 51 Saturday games and 13-6 in their last 19 vs. a team with a winning record. The Penguins are 26-8 in their last 34 home games and 20-9 in their last 29 games following a win. The Ducks are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and 1-5 in the last 6 meetings overall.
The Penguins have won five of the last six games against the Ducks and have a goalie who has been red hot. The Ducks are capable of playing far better than they did in their opener, but Anaheim is also a team that got off to a slow start last season. Even without Crosby, the Penguins have the advantage on their home ice after what they just did to the Capitals.
