Rogers Place hosts an NHL hockey match up between the Buffalo Sabres and the hometown Edmonton Oilers.
The Buffalo Sabres opened the season with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres couldn’t contain the Canadiens attack which received a pair of goals from Brendan Gallagher with Andrew Shaw and Torrey Mitchell also lighting the lamp. Goalie Al Montoya gave the Habs a lift with 30 stops as he started in place of the flu ridden Carey Price. The Sabres lost center Jack Eichel with an ankle injury in practise and Evander Kane was taken to the hospital after slamming in to the boards. Matt Moulson was the lone bright spot for Buffalo with a power play tally in the third but Robin Lehner was charged with all four goals on 24 shots.

The Edmonton Oilers went to Calgary Friday night and completed the sweep of their home and home series by a 5-3 count. The Oilers received another outstanding performance from Connor McDavid with a goal and a pair of helpers for six points in two games. The Flames offense came off the sticks of Sean Monaghan, Michael Frolik and Jyrki Jokipakka with Cam Talbot absorbing the loss despite a 32 save performance. Look for Edmonton to put a priority on improving their defense with Elliott allowing ten goals on just 55 shots.

The Sabres are really snake bitten on the injury front and they haven’t had great success in this match up. I need to see goalies and who is playing before making a pick…
