The Detroit Red Wings look to spoil the party at MSG and earn their second win of the season as they face off against the New York Rangers.
The Red Wings are coming off a big effort on home ice against the Ottawa Senators but now take to the road looking for an encore against their Original Six rivals from New York in what should be a much tougher contest than they faced on Monday. The Wings have been the most consistent team in professional sports over the years as they have made the playoffs in each of the last 25 years but this could be the season that remarkable streak comes to an end as they have lost some key pieces and haven’t been able to fill that void. The Wings will likely turn to Petr Mrazek here as he has become the starting goaltender and he will face off against Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers meanwhile continue to be a team to reckon with in the Eastern Conference as they are loaded across the board and continue to employ one of the better goalies in the league in King Henrik. The Blue Shirts have yet to push through though and win a championship since their 1994 banner season and while they have had a berth in the Cup final, which is more than most teams can say, they are still operating under a Cup-or-bust mentality and if they can’t get through this year we could see more changes coming. New York has a balance of young and old and did make a move to acquire Mika Zibanejad in the offseason from the Ottawa Senators and if the offense can do its part this is going to be a hard team to beat.
The Wings are 2-8 in their last 10 overall, 5-18 in their last 23 road games, and 2-5 in their last seven playing on one day’s rest while the Rangers are 5-1 in their last six against the Atlantic, and 1-5 in their last six after scoring five or more goals in their previous outing. Regardless of that latest trend this is New York’s game to lose as they are by far the better team and should have no issues winning this one in regulation.
