Get ready for Sunday night NHL hockey when the Edmonton Oilers take the ice at the Winnipeg Jets.

The Edmonton Oilers haven’t been the most successful NHL hockey club in recent years but they are looking great with a 4-1-0 record in the early going after downing the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on home ice Thursday night. The Oilers were sharp at both ends of the ice with Milan Lucic, Tyler Pitlick and Connor McDavid scoring with Cam Talbot playing well between the pipes to help his team to consecutive victories. The Blues lone tally came off the stick of Nail Yakupov off a feed from Joel Edmundson in the second but goalie Jake Allen simply received no support in allowing just two goals.

USA TODAY Sports

Momentum is sometimes the key between winning and losing in NHL Hockey and the Winnipeg Jets should have some after coming back from a 4-0 hole to edge the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in overtime.  However, top pick Patrik Laine took over in the third with a pair of goals before scoring the winner in the extra session for the hat trick. Tyler Myers and Mark Scheifele also scored with goalie Michael Hutchinson picking up the win. The Maple Leafs offense consisted of a pair of goals from Nazem Kadri with Connor Carrick and William Nylander finding the back of the net while Frederik Andersen absorbed the loss with all five goals allowed on 34 shots.

The over is 5-0 in Oilers last 5 road games and the under is 5-1 in Oilers last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 5-1-1 in Oilers last 7 vs. Central. The over is 4-0 in Jets last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and the Jets are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Pacific while the Jets are 5-0 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.

The Jets have enjoyed the upper hand in this match up and most have been low scoring but each team has a few new players and the trends could mean zilch. Please check back when goalies are announced…
