Rogers Place and the Edmonton Oilers await the visit of the Washington Capitals in an NHL hockey tilt.
The New York Rangers are probably more well known for their goaltending and defense but I believe the NHL hockey world knows they also have some offensive prowess. The Rangers rallied from a two goal deficit in defeating Washington 4-2 on the road Saturday with rookie Jimmy Vesey scoring twice while Brandon Pirri and Rick Nash also tallied to make Henrik Lundqvist and his 26 stops a winner. The Capitals appeared to be on their way to a big win with a 2-0 lead but a few defensive lapses and New York had all the momentum. Alex Ovechkin and Lars Eller gave the Caps a 2-0 lead in the first but Braden Holtby couldn’t make it hold up with 22 saves to absorb the loss.

The Edmonton Oilers are off to a hot start and playing NHL hockey outdoors in the Heritage Classic did nothing to hurt their game as they whitewashed the Winnipeg Jets 3-0. In the process, the Oilers winning streak reached three games behind the scoring of Mark Letestu, Darnell Nurse and Zack Kassian who also logged an assist. Cam Talbot was the real star with a 31 save performance that was his 12th career shutout and kept Edmonton rolling. Winnipeg put some rubber on Talbot but that’s all they could do and goal tender Connor Hellebuyck was victimized by the lack of support with 29 saves as the Jets fell to 2-3 in the early going.
The over is 4-0-2 in Capitals last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and the over is 2-0-3 in Capitals last 5 road games while the Capitals are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Pacific. The over is 4-0 in Oilers last 4 Wednesday games and the Oilers are 5-0 in their last 5 Wednesday games while the under is 6-1 in Oilers last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in Edmonton and the home team is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings.
The trends say these teams play a lot of unders but it’s early in the season and both squads can’t be labeled yet. Please check back when goalies and lines are released…
