The Philadelphia Flyers look to build on their overtime win against the Red Wings last night as they travel to Brooklyn to take on the New York Islanders.
The Flyers grabbed two huge points at home last night as they outlasted the Red Wings and scored their fourth of the game in overtime and will now look for an encore on the road against an Islanders side who hasn’t quite hit their stride yet. The Flyers have aspirations of making the Eastern Conference playoffs this season but they will be in tough in a competitive Metropolitan division that features the defending Stanley Cup champions and a slew of other strong teams including the Rangers, Capitals, Devils, and these Islanders. Philly is expected to send Steve Mason to the crease here in the back end of a double header as he will face off against Jaroslav Halak who will look to bring down his GAA from 3.15.

The Islanders were expected by many to challenge for the Metro division crown this season and while it is still early they haven’t looked the part and will need to make some adjustment in a hurry if they’re going to be in the running. New York is led up top by John Tavares and he is as good as any in terms of offense and clutch scoring but his supporting cast is fading and will need a handful of guys to chip in if they’re going to keep pace with the titans of the division mentioned above.
The Flyers are 0-4 in their last four Thursday games and have played to the OVER in their last four while the Isles are 1-9 in their last 10 against the East and 15-7 in their last 22 against a team with a losing record. Philly got a big win last night but will be in tough here and I think with Mason in the Isles take advantage and get a big win.
