The Toronto Maple Leafs look to complete the Alberta sweep as they head into Calgary to battle the Flames after a win in Edmonton last night.

The Maple Leafs got the best of Connor McDavid and the Oilers for the second time this month as they followed up an overtime win in Toronto with a 4-2 doubling on Tuesday night and will now look to carry that momentum into their battle on Wednesday with the Flames. Toronto has had a spectacular start from their young guns this season as both Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are on a tear and are in the mix for the Calder as the league’s top rookie, and guys like James van Riemsdyk and Nazem Kadri are playing well also and if they can get their blue line to step up and give Frederik Andersen a bit more breathing room this team could very well go on a run to the playoffs. Andersen is expected to get the start as he will face off against Chad Johnson who has seemingly taken the starter’s role away from Brian Elliott for the time being.

The Flames meanwhile are coming off an overtime loss against the lowly New York Islanders but return home to friendly confines in this one as they host the Maple Leafs at the Saddledome. Calgary hasn’t had a great start to the season and the loss of Johnny Gaudreau won’t help matters as their offense has been sputtering as is and are now without one of their best offensive threats for the foreseeable future. Sean Monahan got back on the scoresheet with a goal against the Isles and he will need to keep rolling if the Flames are going to start stringing some wins together and an inspired effort on home ice could be the start of that turnaround.

The Leafs are 5-1 in their last six against the Pacific and 7-20 in their last 27 Wednesday games while the Flames are 4-1 in their last five against the Atlantic and 1-4 in their last five home games. Toronto has struggled on the road this season and always seem to find ways to slump against teams they should beat, and with tired legs I think the Flames get the win here.
