Atlanta Hawks at Oklahoma City Thunder
NBA Basketball: Tuesday February 2, 2009 08:00 PM EST
The Line: Oklahoma City -1
Two of the most exciting young teams in the NBA square off tonight as the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Atlanta Hawks.
The (26-21, 28-19 ATS) Thunder come into tonight's game off a 45 point explosion by their All-Star Kevin Durant as OKC took down Golden State at home 112-104. It was the same old story for the (30-16, 30,16 ATS) Hawks as they continued to struggle against the Orlando Magic in their most recent game, the loss marks the third time the Magic have beaten the Hawks this season.
The Thunder and Hawks met for the first time a little under two weeks ago with OKC coming into Atlanta and stealing a 94-91 victory. The Hawks did win the previous three games before that victory, however the Thunder have dominated the Hawks against the spread dating back to 2004, holding a 9-1 edge over the Hawks in their last 10.
- Underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
- Road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings
- Hawks are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Oklahoma City.
- Hawks are 19-8-1 ATS in their last 28 vs. Western Conference.
- Hawks are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss.
- Thunder are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.
- Thunder are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 vs. NBA Southeast.
- Thunder are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite.
This promises to be a great contest between two of the best young squads in the league each led by their respective All-Stars in Joe Johnson and Kevin Durant. OKC already handed the Hawks a loss in their first meeting this year but I have a hard time believing they do it again and sweep the season series with the Hawks. OKC have been playing some great basketball this year but they are not invincible, evidenced by their 3 game losing not so long ago. Atlanta was embarrassed in their last game against Orlando so expect them to come out and play with a purpose tonight, not to mention the revenge factor after OKC came into their place and stole a win. I expect this one to go down the wire with the Hawks being on the winning side this time.
Dan's Pick: Atlanta M/L
