The Los Angeles Dodgers have confirmed that outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for a positive test for performance nehancing drugs. The suspension will begin immediately.
According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, this is a result of a prescription drug that is not generally considered performance enhancing nor is it prominent on the list of banned substances. Manny was told at the time of getting the prescription by doctors that it would not affect his MLB status.
Major league baseball insiders including Boston Red Sox officials do not believe Ramirez has ever intentionally used performance enhancing drugs. This will cost Manny 7.7 million dollars in salary.
