Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race: NASCAR Preview, Odds, Pick, Predictions, Dark Horses - 8/17/19

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

We make our second and final trip to Tennessee for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, an event that debuted in 1961 and usually takes about three hours to complete. After this, there’s two races left before the playoffs. We returned to victory lane last week with Kevin Harvick cashing at +550 odds, and three of our five drivers overall finished sixth or better. We’ve won three of the last four races. Let’s stay hot.

Here are five drivers to consider throwing on this week’s card. (Will update with odds once they’re released.)

Kyle Busch, +275 - Despite not winning a race since early June, Kyle Busch will enter this week as the overwhelming favorite and have ver low odds. You still can’t keep him off your card. Busch has owned Bristol for majority of his career, as he’s won three of the last four races here and has won this particular race three times. Busch also has a combined 14 victories at this track during his time in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. The odds won’t be great, but Busch wins here at such an alarming rate that’s it’s impossible to keep him off the card.

Kurt Busch, +2100 - Kurt Busch has really struggled since his win in Kentucky, finishing outside of the top-10 in three of his four races since. The good news is Busch is the defending champion at this race and is a two-time winner at this event overall. Also, Busch was runner-up in the first Bristol race this year and has finished fifth or better in five of his last 10 appearances at the Bristol Motor Speedway overall. A bounce back performance is coming this week, folks.

Joey Logano, +770 - Joey Logano is another driver due for a bounce back showing after three straight finishes outside of the top-10. Logano is a two-time winner at this particular race and finished fourth here last year. In his last three appearances at the Bristol Motor Speedway, Logano is averaging a finish of 5.3, and he has top-10 finishes in eight of his last 10 trips here overall. Logano is also a two-time winner at this track in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Erik Jones, +2200 - If you’re looking for a dark horse this week, Erik Jones could be your guy, as he’s finished seventh or better in five of his last seven races. Jones also has history in Bristol, winning at this track twice in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and averaging a 3.5 finish in his two appearances in this race. The prices Jones usually fetches and his history at this track are going to make him a very juicy play.

Kyle Larson, +880 - We gave Kyle Larson a shot last week despite not winning a race in two years, and he finished third and nearly cashed at +1520 odds. He’s earned a spot on the card again this week and has top-five finishes in four of his last seven races. As for Bristol, Larson was runner-up in the two races here last year and is averaging a finish of 7.6 in his last five trips here overall. Larson also has finished fifth or better in seven of his nine appearances at the Bristol Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, which includes winning last years Food City 300. The drought could end this week.
