Florida Panthers -135 / Philadelphia Flyers +115 -- O/U: 6.5
The Philadelphia Flyers and the Florida Panthers meet in NHL action from the BB&T Center on Thursday night.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to rebound from a 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders last time out. The Islanders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by the end of the opening period before Travis Konecny and Robert Hagg pulled Philly back to 3-2 in a span of 2:22 around the midway point of the 2nd period. Sean Couturier tied the game at three late in the 3rd and the Philly faithful were hoping for OT but New York would take a 4-3 lead just :51 later and would ice the win with an empty-netter with just :04 to play. Brian Elliott took the loss, falling to 14-7-4 after allowing 4 goals on 24 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Florida Panthers will look to build on a 5-3 win over the New Jersey Devils in their last outing. New Jersey jumped ahead just over three minutes into the game before Brett Connolly tied the game at one just opast the midway point of the 1st and Michael Matheson gave Florida a 2-1 lead late in the 1st. Mark Pysyk pushed the lead to 3-1 before New Jersey responded just 1:34 later. Frank Vatrano restored the two-goal lead just :42 later and Noel Acciari added a 5th goal just :39 after that. The Devils pulled a goal back later in the 2nd and despite outshooting Florida 13-9 in the 3rd, New Jersey wouldn’t get any closer as Florida held on until the final horn for the win. Sam Montembault got the win to improve to 5-2-1 on the year after stopping 25 of 28 shots faced in the winning effort.
Philadelphia is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 road games. Florida is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 7-3 in their last 10 home games while the over is 37-18-2 in their last 57 games following a win. Philadelphia is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.
The Flyers and the plus money is tempting, but the fact remains that Philadelphia isn’t the same team on the road that they are at home, and while Florida’s had issues, the Panthers still pack a punch offensively and have had the upper hand on Philadelphia in recent head-to-head meetings. I just think Florida at home is easier to trust than Philly on the road, so I’ll lay the juice with Florida at home here.
