On Sunday Crystal Palace will return to the Premier League with a tough opener against Tottenham Hotspur. Ian Holloway has not added alot of players in the off season and the Eagles have lost their star player form last season as Wilfried Zaha is now plying his trade at Manchester United. The addition of Marouanne Chamakh is an interesting move as the former Arsenal man struggled to settle in at the Emirates and never really nailed down a starting spot but on occasion he did show great talent for the gunners. Holloway will be an interesting side show in the league, his demeanour and frank interviews were great fun for all during Blackpool's stay in the league a couple of years back and it is great to see him come back up with Palace. Will he be able to motivate his squad to perform against one of the toughest teams in the Premier league?
Andre Villa Boas will look at Palace away as one of the easier away games and Tottenham will simply have to beat the likes of Crystal Palace if they want to qualify for the Champions League this year. The whole summer has been dominated by Tottenham winger Gareth Bale and his will he /wont he leave saga and there is a good chance that Tottenham may start the league without the Welsh man in their ranks. But lucky for Spurs fans there have been some summer purchases this year including a record £26.5 million signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia , a player that should add significant goals to the chase for Champions League football. Add in the additions of midfielders Paulinho and Chadli and Spurs, even without Bale, look significantly stronger this year than last and with a top manager in Villa Boas I think that this Spurs side are going to push very hard for the Champions League.
This is the first game in the league where I think the bookmakers may just have got the lines wrong. Tottenham should be priced up at 2/5 or shorter and at the current price I will be jumping all over them. So take Tottenham to win and for those who want a little more gamble Tottenham -1 at 2/1 looks really tempting to me.
