It was expected that Barcelona goalkeeper, Victor Valdez, would be leaving Barcelona during this summer`s transfer window, however, he is still there, but Barcelona are looking to sign Chelsea keeper, Petr Cech next season.

Cech, 31, has decided to stay at Chelsea for one more season to work again with Jose Mourinho. However, he has let it be known that he wants a new challenge and what better than to go to the current La Liga champions and join one of the top teams in Europe challenging for the Champions League.

Chelsea are relaxed about the situation as they already have an excellent replacement in the giant Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on loan for another season at Atletico Madrid. The 21 year old Belgian has emerged as one of Europe`s top goalkeepers whilst in Spain and is keen to make a start at Chelsea. Mourinho was hoping to bring him back to Chelsea this season, but after speaking to Cech, he decided to let Courtois spend another season at Atletico whilst Cech has a final year with the `special one`.

It was thought for some time that Liverpool`s Spanish goalkeeper, Pepe Reina would replace Valdez this season and a deal was in place. In fact, it is known that Reina had signed a pre-contractual agreement with Barcelona, however, this is not binding and it now looks like Cech will be the man wanted by Barcelona next year.

In a side issue, new signing Willian, who was snatched away from Tottenham at the eleventh hour, has vowed to make an impact at Chelsea this season in an attempt to impress the Brazilian national team bosses in time for the World Cup next year. Willian was playing for Russian club, Shaktar Donetsk, when Tottenham made a £30m bid for him. The deal was almost done when Chelsea`s Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, called his friend at Shaktar and whisked the player away from Tottenham in a £32m deal.
