Chelsea v Basel Match Review 9-18-2013: Chelsea Lose 1-2 To Spark Abramovich Anger

Chelsea lost at home for the first time in a Champions League tie.

See the Latest Odds

Roman Abramovich, the sociopath owner of Chelsea stormed across the pitch last night in a fit of pique after his side’s dismal display and defeat to the minnows of their Champions’ League group.

Mourinho has always made great play from the fact that Chelsea have not lost a group match at home in the Champion`s League, until last night that is. Chelsea players were second to everything on a night where tiny Basel showed the multi-millionaire bunch how it is done.

Chelsea v Basel Match Review 9-18-2013: Chelsea Lose 1-2 To Spark Abramovich Anger

The whole ethos of Chelsea is the antithesis of everything which is good about football, from their conniving transfer deals and policy to the way they treat managers and fans. Moreover, there will be no tears shed in Spain for Mourinho, who was drummed out of the country by fans, players and media. It is a damning indictment on our media here in the UK that gangs of obsequious journalists slouch around in Mourinho`s press conferences laughing hysterically at every word as though he is the Messiah.

This defeat comes hot on the heels of their demeaning hammering at Everton last weekend and it doesn’t bode well for the Beau Brummel Brigade from the Kings Road.

Evidently, Mourinho tried to pass off this latest setback by saying that he wasn`t shocked by his teams dire performance, but the baying crowd in the background may want to disagree. When asked about his teams defeat Mourinho said:-

"We have taken a step back in qualification but we have to assume responsibility."

Yet, more meaningless convoluted claptrap from the manager who christened himself `The Special One` in such self-effacing hypocrisy.

Mourinho had all Summer to realise that there was no way that Manchester United would ever let Wayne Rooney leave and sign for the West London outfit, yet he waited until transfer deadline day to make one of the worst signings ever in Samuel Eto`o. Here was a player aged 32, washed up and playing for a grossly bloated salary at some backwater Russian team with yet another rich owner. Any surprise then that he has been an abject failure already in the Premiership? Not only did the `Special One` buy a clapped out striker, he also let go one of the best young strikers in the division in Lukaku! How special was that?

Chelsea plays Fulham at home at the weekend in a match that hereto would have been a stroll in the park. Now it will be a played in shark infested waters as every mistake will be met with the groans of fans spoilt by years of reckless and profligate spending. Not bad for a club which is effectively insolvent, but for the owner’s wealth, but somehow, football clubs seem to be above the company laws in the UK.

Mourinho was sacked by Abramovich 6 years to the day, last night and it will be interesting to see how long he lasts this time after one of the worst starts to a season in living memory.
