The return of the Champions League has been highly anticipated by all football fans and it kicks off with a bang and the tie of the round when Barcelona travel to the Ethiad Stadium to take on Manchester City. Barcelona lie top of the Primera Division and this is despite missing their best player Lionel Messi for close to two months. Messi is back now though and with him comes the goals, having scored five goals in his last three Messi is showing signs of being back to full fitness. Barcelona do have a terrific squad of players and while they might not be playing at the same level as the team that won two Champions League in three years they do possess players of the calibre of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez, Xavi and Iniesta. Question marks are continuously asked about Barcelona's defence though and rightly so it is here that Barcelona will win or lose this tie.
Manchester City come into this game after an important home win over Chelsea in the FA Cup, the win was impressive more so in the manner that City played. Chelsea had handled City very well in the league game at the Ethiad a couple of weeks back and City appeared to address the deficiencies in their play on Saturday. But Barcelona are another step up and Manuel Pelligrini's side will have to be at the top of their game to beat Barcelona. Missing from the City line up though will be Sergio Aguero the brilliant Argentine is still battling an injury picked up a couple of weeks ago, lucky for Manchester City that Stefan Jovetich has started to perform like the brilliant player he was prior to signing with City in the summer. With Jovetich and Negredo I think City have a really good partnership and Eden Dzeko to come from the bench there is alot of strength in depth in Manchester City. This will also be the first game that Ya Ya Toure plays against his old club, Fernandinho and Toure will have their work cut out for them against Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas but I think the City players will be relishing this.
Quite often when too of the top teams meet in a knockout tournament the game ends up being a damp squib and we see few chances and even fewer goals, tomorrow night is not going to be one of those nights in my opinion. I think Manchester City know they must come out and score a few goals at home in order to give themselves a chance in the Nou Camp, I think Barcelona will want an away goal and mostly I think the atmosphere in the Ethiad stadium tomorrow night is going to be Electric. Manchester City fans have not experienced a night like this in decades, tomorrow is going to be a special night for the sky blue half of Manchester and lets hope the game lives up to these high expectations. I think it will and I am taking the overs. I will have a pick on the winner in the Premium section for tomorrow night and will be available on the app as well Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
