Its not so long ago( less than 9 months) that if you seen Manchester United at 7/1 in a home game at Old Trafford you would go check yourself into the looney bin as prices like that just did not exist in Manchester United home games. Howeever Ferguson has left, Moyes took over and the bottom seems to have fallen out of the Theather of Dreams where Manchester United have lost six hme games for the first time in over a quarter of a century. But there have been signs of life at Old Trafford recently, Wayne Rooney seems to have come alive in recent weeks scoring four in the last three games and tomorrow night may see the perfect set up for Shinji Kagawa to work his magic. Kagawa was terrific on Saturday against Aston Villa and during his time at Borussia Dortmund Kagawa was a torn in the side of Bayern Munich and often the architect of their downfall. Its now or never for Manchester United's season and it may very well be now or never for Kagawa's United career. The injury to Robin Van Persie though has robbed Manchester United of their most clinical finisher, that absence may be felt over the two legs but tomorrow night in Old Trafford the crowd, the team and the management can maybe , just maybe, believe in miracles.
Bayern Munich are without doubt the best team in Europe, European Champions already the champions of the Bundesliga and unbeaten domestically this season. Pep Guardiola's arrival in Munich has coincided with one of the greatest collection of players in Bayern. With Robben and Ribery on the wings its a constant duel attack down the wings, Mandzukich and Muller have alternated through the center and its a really tough team to play against. Bayern work hard and seem to be always trying to improve. Philip Lahm one of the greatest defenders of his generation has been playing as a holding midfielder under Guardiola and has adapted beautifully. Munich come to Old Trafford though as such heavy favourites that maybe they might just take Manchester United lightly.
On paper this is a mismatch, Manchester United have been poor all season, Bayern have been immense. Surely just a walk in the park for the german side right? Well i dont think so, I think there are a couple of big performances left in this Manchester United squad. Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs all know that this is there last hurrah, special players often end their careers with special moments. This is a gut feeling I have about Giggs and Vidic and I think that Manchester United may pull off one of the biggest shocks of the year over two legs here. But either way Manchester United +2 at evens just stands out to me as the value bet of the week and thats what I will be on. Follow me on twiter@antonpippo
