On Wednesday we will be privileged to see two of the best teams in world football going to toe to toe. Bayern Munich are the current Champions of Europe and they will fancy their chances of retaining the title if they can overcome Real Madrid in this two legged semi final. Pep Guardiola's side has stumbled a little of late but with the league title already wrapped up it is only natutal for the team to become a bit complacent. There will be no such complacency allowed when Munich land in Madrid though to face the nine time European Champions who have been elusively seeking a tenth title for over a decade now. Bayern Munich's main threat will come from the wings where Ribery and ex Madrid star Robben will be a constant thorn in Madrids side. Thomas Muller and Mandzukich will battle it out for the right to lead the line with my money on the Croatian to get the nod from Guardiola. Of course an interesting sub plot in this game is that Pep Guardiola was manager of Barcelona during that spell when they dominated both Real Madrid and the Spanish League and a spell in which Guardiola also won two Champions Leagues. There is no doubt the Madrid fans will give him a "warm" reception.
Real Madrid's star men Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are both doubthful for the game. Ronaldo has not played since injuring himself in the first leg of the quarter final with Borussia Dortmund and Bale is suffering from a flu but both are expected to be available on Wedensday night. Real Madrid are a terrific team that Carlo Ancelotti has moulded to be a unit. Di Maria and Benzema have come into their own in Ronaldo's absence but Madrid are just a much much better side when Ronaldo plays. Why? Because Ronaldo always scores. It doesnt matter who he plays against Ronaldo is a goal machine. The Portugese superstar has scored more goals than the number of games he has played since his £80million move from Manchester United and Bayern will be hoping he does not start tonight. But this Real Madrid team are far from a one man show with Bale, Benzema, Di Maria, Modric, Isco and a whole bevvy of international superstars through out the squad.
Personally if both Ronaldo and Bale start, I like Madrid to win tonight. But the best bet on the boards is the over. I'm taking over 2.5 goals and will have a little nibble at over 3.5 as well. I think there is so much attacking power on display tonight that there are bound to be goals. I will really be looking forward to getting the feet up and watching this one as it should be one of the most interesting games of the year. Follow me on twitter @antonpippo
