Jose Mourhino showed us exactly how to win football games when going to Anfield last Sunday and beating Liverpool with a second string team. Get all of your players pulling in the one direction. There is nothing more powerful in any team sport than every player playing to the best of his ability for the team, sacrificing their own individuality for the common good. Chelsea and Mourhino have embodied that this season. On Wednesday Mourhino gets to lead his team out against Athletico Madrid 90 minutes from a final in his native Portugal. Chelsea must win in Stamford Bridge to be assured of progress, would anyone be willing to bet against the blues getting the job done? With Hazard, Oscar, Torres, Willian, Cahill and Terry all due back in the starting line up a fresh Chelsea will take the field knowing what they must do. Similar to what faces Chelsea in the second leg of their quarter final.
Diego Simeone and Athletico Madrid have been a breath of fresh air for the Spanish La Liga. I really hope this Atheltico Madrid side can come away from the season with silverware at the very least a league title but it will not be an easy road. Atheltico must continue to win with both Barcelona and Real chasing them and a last day trip to the Nou Camp on the schedule this one is going to go right down to the wire. On Wednesday Atheltico travel to London to take on Mourhino and his Chelsea side. In the first leg in Madrid Mourhino's side played ultra defensively and Atheltico struggled to break through. Diego Costa , Raul Garcia and the rest of the Athletico strikers struggled to cope with the lack of space and when the opportunities did arise Athletico seemed to lack the composure to put them away. With Diego Costa and David Villa though there is no doubt that Athletico possess the talent up front to cause Chelsea problems.
Honestly I dont think I could think of a harder game to handicap. Athletico to me at this price are far too big. If Chelsea try to come out and play against Athletico then they will be playing into the hands of Diego Simeone who's team is built for counter attacking the possession game played by Real and Barcelona. The first leg was such a tight and tense affair that its hard to see how this second leg will be any different. I'm going to take a draw at half time. I think Athletico will be the ones defending in Stamford Bridge but I do think they are capable of getting a result here and their own counterattacking game could well be suited to this job. The unders are a solid bet on this game but I have a feeling we will reach have time without a goal so the half time draw at bigger odds than the unders appeals. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
